How to read your Human Design chart
Most guides teach you to read somebody else's chart. This one teaches from yours. Put your birth details in once, and every lesson after that points at your own bodygraph.
Nine lessons here, free. The full 24 lesson masterclass on your own chart comes with your reading.
How to read a Human Design chart, in nine steps
The course above walks through your own chart. This is the same ground written out, so you can read it start to finish or come back to one part of it.
Start with your own chart
A Human Design chart is worked out from the exact moment you were born: the date, the time and the place. It is not a questionnaire and it is not your star sign. It is a calculation, the same kind an astronomer would recognize, run against where the sun, the moon and the planets sat at your birth and again about three months before it.
The time matters most. An hour out and some of it changes. If you do not know your birth time, use your best guess and carry on, because your type and your centers usually hold steady across a few hours. Your profile and some of your gates can move, so a time from a birth certificate gives the most reliable result.
What you are actually looking at
The shape is a wiring diagram, not a picture of a person. There are nine shapes, called centers. Around them sit sixty four numbered gates, and between the gates run lines called channels. That is the whole vocabulary. Everything else in Human Design hangs off those three words.
A center is defined when a channel connects into it. Defined means consistent: that part of you works the same way most days, and other people feel it coming off you. A center is open when nothing connects into it. Open means you take that energy in from whoever you are with, amplify it, and can easily mistake it for your own. Open is not weak. It is where you are wise about other people, because you have felt what they feel.
Your type
Type is the first thing anybody reads and the thing most people get wrong. There are five: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor and Reflector. Which one you are is decided by which centers are defined and how they connect. It is arithmetic. It is not a personality, it is not a preference, and it does not change.
Two people with the same type can live completely different lives, because everything else in their charts is different. Type is where reading a chart begins, never where it ends.
Your strategy
Strategy is how things are meant to reach you, and it is the most useful idea in the system because you do not have to believe it. You can test it for a week and watch what happens.
Generators and Manifesting Generators are built to respond to what shows up rather than to start cold. Projectors are built to wait for recognition and invitation. Manifestors are built to start things, and to tell the people affected before they move. Reflectors are built to take about a month over anything big. None of these is better than another. They are different ways of entering a room.
Your authority
Strategy is how things reach you. Authority is how you say yes or no once they have. Here is the part that surprises people: your authority is not your mind. Your mind is brilliant at chewing something over and unreliable at deciding, because given long enough it will justify whatever you already wanted.
Emotional authority means there is no truth in the moment, and clarity comes over a wave, so sleeping on it is the whole practice. Sacral authority is a gut response that arrives before your head has an opinion. Splenic authority speaks once, quietly, and does not repeat itself. Ego authority asks what you actually want and whether you can back it. Self projected authority finds the answer by talking out loud. Mental authority gets clear through conversation and the right environment. Lunar authority needs the full cycle.
Defined and open centers
This is the part that explains your difficult days. Your open centers are where other people get in. You take in what is around you, turn the volume up, and walk home carrying something you never generated. The feeling is real. The source is often not you.
Your defined centers are the steady ones. They are what you put into a room and what other people pick up from you without knowing it. On a hard day the useful question is simply this: did this start with me, and who was I around? Asked often enough, that question is most of what deconditioning actually is.
Your channels and gates
Channels are the wires. Gates are the ends of the wires. A gate on its own is a flavor, something available to you that shows up sometimes. When you carry both gates of a pair, the channel is complete, the wire is live, and both centers it touches become defined.
That is how definition actually happens. It is not assigned to you, it is built out of pairs. It is also why two people who share a gate can feel nothing like each other: one has the other half of the wire and the other does not. The gates you carry that are not yet wired into a full channel are often exactly where you feel inconsistent, and that inconsistency is not a fault.
Your profile
If type is the engine, profile is the costume it wears. It is two numbers, drawn from the lines of your sun and earth gates. The first is how you experience yourself. The second is how other people experience you. Same type, different profile, and the life looks completely different from the outside.
Some lines need to research something before they can trust it. Some need to be left alone until they are called out. Some learn by bumping into things and calling it failure when it was really just finding out. Some move entirely through people they already know. The second number is usually the one that explains how people keep describing you.
Reading it all at once
Here is the whole method in order. Type tells you how your energy is built. Strategy tells you how to enter things. Authority tells you how to decide once you are in. Your centers tell you where you are consistent and where you are influenced. Channels and gates tell you what is actually wired. Profile tells you how all of it looks from the outside.
Six things, read in that order, and a chart stops being a diagram and starts being a description of somebody you recognize. Reading a chart is the part you can learn in an afternoon. Living it is the longer piece, and that is a different kind of work.
The masterclass: 24 lessons on your own chart
Nine lessons is enough to read a chart. It is not enough to know your own. The masterclass picks up where lesson nine stops and takes 24 lessons over it, in four stages, every one of them built on your real bodygraph rather than an example. It lives in your private dashboard and it opens with your reading.
That is the part people are surprised by. You come for the reading and you also get taught the system your reading is written in, so you are not depending on anybody to interpret it for you a second time.
What you are looking at, and the four things that decide everything else.
Every center, channel, gate and line in your own chart, one at a time.
Experiments. This is where the chart stops being information.
Lines, cross, circuitry, planets, transits, and reading somebody else cold.
Human Design should be learnable by anybody who wants it, which is why the nine lessons above cost nothing and need no account. Beyond them the aim is the same and it is simple: beginner to master of your own design, at one low entry price. The masterclass is not an upgrade and it is not an add-on. It is included with your reading, alongside 60+ sections written for your exact chart, the workbook library, the meditations and Jessica. More courses are being built, and when they land they land in the same place, for the people who are already in.
Your reading opens the dashboard, and the masterclass is waiting inside it: 24 lessons, four stages, all of it written against the chart you have just spent 45 minutes learning.
Get your readingIs the mini course really free?
Yes. Nine lessons, no account and no email address. You enter your birth details once and every lesson after that teaches from your own chart. The full 24 lesson masterclass comes with a reading.
Do I need my chart before I start?
No. The course calculates it for you at the start from your birth date, time and city, and then points every lesson at it.
What order should I read a chart in?
Type first, then strategy, then authority. Those three change how you make decisions this week. After that come centers, channels and profile, which is exactly the order this course walks.
What is the difference between defined and open centers?
A defined center is colored in and works the same way in you all the time. An open center is white, and it is where you absorb and amplify the people around you, which is why certain rooms change how you feel.
What are gates and channels?
Gates are the numbered activation points around your chart, each one a specific theme. When two gates connect across two centers, they form a channel, and a channel is a trait that is consistently yours.
How long does the course take?
Each lesson takes a few minutes. You can walk it straight through in about an hour, or take one lesson at a time and come back. The lessons stay in the same order either way.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
Use your best estimate and check your birth certificate when you can. The core of the chart usually holds across a few hours, and any nearby city in the same timezone gives the same chart.
What is in the full masterclass?
24 lessons that go further into your specific gates, channels, centers and profile, taught from your own chart and paired with your reading, so what you learn in a lesson is sitting right there in your report.
